Weekly Message 304 – 5 June 2026
5th June 2026

Normandy trip
We hope you all had a restful half term break. As we settle into the first week back, it is important that pupils start the half term as they mean to go on, with a clear focus on learning, positive routines and continued commitment in lessons.
With the weather still changeable, we ask parents/carers to support us by ensuring pupils come to school prepared with a suitable coat for wet days, so they are comfortable throughout the school day. Pupils are also expected to come to school with a filled water bottle which they can refill at break and lunchtime.
If you do need to get in touch with us at any point, please use the contact details provided here. With a busy half term ahead, we would also encourage families to keep an eye on key dates and events via the school calendar, which can be accessed on our website.
Years 7 and 8 Touch Rugby Club
On Monday 8 June 2026 and Monday 15 June 2026 we will be holding touch rugby sessions for Year 7 and Year 8 pupils (boys and girls). If your child would like to attend, they should go to the Sports Hall after school.
100% Attendance
Pupils who achieved 100% attendance for this half term have been recognised with a letter of congratulation sent home, along with a reward of 20 achievement points each, which have been added to Arbor.
In addition, we are also celebrating those who have shown the greatest improvement in attendance, with individual prizes to be awarded shortly. There will also be recognition for tutor groups, including awards for the most improved tutor group and the best overall attendance per tutor group. Tutor group awards will be presented in assemblies next week and individual recognition will be shared separately.
Pride Month
First week of celebrating Pride Month and here is what we got up to.
The first week of June, our school kicked off Pride Month with an inspiring tribute to LGBTQ+ icons.
We transformed our corridors into a vibrant “Hall of Fame.”
This display honours the trailblazing individuals who paved the way for modern equality.
Groundbreaking artist Frida Kahlo, Olympic boxing champion Nicola Adams, pioneering astronaut Sally Ride, musical legend Freddie Mercury, and literary genius Oscar Wilde
These iconic figures are just a few of the many who used their immense talents to break barriers and change the world and laid the foundation for the LGBTQ+ community to take a stand today.
By celebrating their achievements, we hope to inspire our younger generation to embrace their own unique talents and continue building a diverse and inclusive future.
Normandy Trip

It was a brilliant few days on our 2026 Normandy trip.
On Friday, pupils visited Pegasus Bridge and began immersing themselves in French culture, even sampling local delicacies such as frogs’ legs and snails in the evening.
Saturday saw us explore the beautiful town of Honfleur, where pupils enjoyed browsing the market and experiencing everyday French life. We then travelled to Caen for some shopping before ending the day with a visit to Bayeux War Cemetery, which provided an opportunity for reflection on the sacrifices made during the Second World War.
Sunday was dedicated to learning about D-Day and the events that shaped modern Europe. Pupils visited the Arromanches 360 Cinema before heading to Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery, where they gained a deeper appreciation of the scale and human cost of the Normandy landings. The day concluded with a moving talk at the British Normandy Memorial from former BBC reporter Nicholas Witchell, who played a key role in establishing the memorial.
On our final day, pupils visited a traditional cider and apple farm, where they learned about another important aspect of Normandy’s heritage and enjoyed the taste of local produce.
Throughout the trip, pupils embraced every opportunity to experience French culture, history and traditions. From exploring local towns and markets to standing on the beaches where history was made, they showed maturity, curiosity and respect. Learning about the sacrifices of those involved in the Second World War was both humbling and inspiring, and the trip provided memories and lessons that will stay with us all for years to come.
The pupils were a credit to the school throughout, and a fantastic time was had by all.
USA Trip

Over the half-term holiday 39 pupils went on a Geography trip of a lifetime. An 11-hour flight took them to the West Coast of the USA where they admired the splendour of the Grand Canyon, withstood the heat of Death Valley, enjoyed the gaudiness of Las Vegas, revered the majesty of Yosemite and discovered the landmarks of San Francisco and Los Angeles. Mr G Blackman would like to thank the pupils who attended for their excellent company, and Miss Deathers, Mrs Bolton, Mrs Cother and Mr Atkins for their support in running the trip.
Art Trip to Goodwood Art Foundation

On Wednesday 03 June our Arts Award pupils and a group of our Young Carers enjoyed a wonderful day at the Goodwood Art Foundation. Despite the changeable June weather, pupils embraced the experience and made the most of their visit.
The group explored the impressive sculptures set throughout the grounds and visited the exhibition spaces, taking inspiration from both the artwork and the beautiful surroundings. They then headed to the Learning Hub to take part in a collagraph printing workshop, creating their own pieces inspired by what they had seen during the day.
It was a fantastic opportunity for creativity, learning and exploration, and pupils returned with new artistic ideas and memorable experiences from a truly inspiring setting.
Young Carers’ Cook Session – Oodles of Noodles

Our Young Carers recently enjoyed a fun and engaging cook session, where they worked together to create a delicious noodle dish while experimenting with a variety of natural flavours. The pupils demonstrated excellent teamwork, helping one another throughout the cooking process and sharing ideas to enhance their recipes. The session concluded with everyone sitting down to enjoy their meal together, practising their chopsticks and celebrating their culinary success. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm, cooperation, and confidence in the kitchen.
