Weekly Message – Issue 43

Credit Averages for this week:

Year 7               9.42
Year 8               9.14
Year 9               9.23
Year 10             6.01
Year 11             3.87

This week has seen our first ‘House’ assemblies of the year.  Presented by members of the PE Department, who spearhead and organise the ‘House’ system, the gauntlet was laid down as each ‘House’ welcomed its new Year 7 members and heard about plans and the competition for the year ahead.

All pupils, staff and governors are members of either ‘Warrior’ ‘Endeavour’ ‘Illustrious’ or ‘Invincible’. The entire school community is invited to participate in the various challenges offered throughout the year to earn valuable house points and in the process raise money for their nominated charity.

We ask parents and carers to encourage their child to participate in ‘House’ activities of interest and to look out for the regular updates throughout the year.

Being Prepared

The school is now well and truly back into its routine. We respectfully remind parents/carers to ensure that their son/daughter is fully equipped for lessons and with the weather changeable, we ask that pupils come prepared, especially for journeying to and from school in wet weather.

We also ask that parents/carers ensure that pupils are wearing the correct school socks which need to be plain black and ankle length – small trainer socks are not permitted.

Tower of London Trip

Year 8 pupils enjoyed a fun-filled trip to the Tower of London on Monday. They got involved with stories about how Jewish people were treated in Medieval England and discovered their inner Tudor Catholics and Protestants to see who would rule England. Learning about torture and standing in a torture chamber was of high interest, especially when discovering about the escape of famous Catholic John Gerrard.

Netball

On Tuesday our Senior netball team played Portsmouth Grammar School. All girls played well, with a stand-out performance from M Bradbury, who was nominated our ‘players’ player’. PGS were wonderful hosts and a pleasure to play against. Although we lost 21-28, we look forward to the re-match, when our Year 9 team will also be playing.
