Year 11 Geography Trip to Iceland

Thank you to all parents and carers of Year 11 pupils for joining us at the Pupil Progress evening this week and we hope that you found the evening helpful as we work together to support your children to achieve the best possible outcomes in the forthcoming exams.

As we reach the end of this half term, we would like to thank you all for what has been a truly positive and productive few weeks. Our pupils have shown great commitment to their learning and enrichment opportunities, and we are incredibly proud of their efforts. Thank you also to parents and families for your continued support – it plays a vital role in the success of our school community.

We now look forward to a well-earned half term break. I hope it provides everyone with the opportunity to rest, recharge and enjoy time together.

When we return, we have a number of important events taking place. On Monday, we are pleased to be welcoming the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust into school to support a group of pupils with bike maintenance which is a great opportunity for pupils to ensure their bikes are safe and roadworthy. We would also like to wish our Year 11 pupils the very best of luck as they begin their mock speaking examinations in MFL; we are confident they will approach these with maturity and determination.

On Tuesday, we look forward to welcoming parents and carers of Year 10 pupils for the Pupil Progress Evening. Thank you to those who have already made appointments – bookings are now fully open (please refer to letter sent to parents and carers dated 4 February for specific details), and we encourage everyone to attend to discuss progress and next steps. Year 9 pupils will also have their immunisations on Tuesday and Wednesday.

School reopens on Monday 23 February 2026. We look forward to seeing everyone back after the break, refreshed and ready for another busy and successful half term.

Year 11’s Unforgettable Journey to the Land of Fire and Ice

Last weekend, we had the incredible opportunity to take 40 Year 11 Geographers on an unforgettable adventure to Iceland, the land of fire and ice!

This year we were pleased to see the return of snow and ice, and there was no shortage of volcanic activity and breathtaking landscapes for our pupils to explore.  Pupils experienced the capital Reykjavik, the lava show and the most incredible Flyover Iceland on a simulator.  This was an incredible experience.

Saturday saw a journey on the Golden Circle.  We also passed through the eerie, evacuated town of Grindavik, abandoned due to ongoing volcanic activity. It was a rare opportunity to witness firsthand the devastating effects of tectonic forces, from fissures in the earth to fresh lava fields.  After dinner, we had a relaxing dip in the mineral-rich waters of the Blue Lagoon.

On Sunday we took a trip along the South Shore, with the waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, the dramatic Black Sand Beach and a new and exciting opportunity this year to climb over the Sólheimajökull glacier.  This is a rapidly receding outlet glacier of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap in southern Iceland. To round off an action-packed trip, we were fortunate to get a good glimpse of the Northern Lights – the icing on the cake!

This trip was truly an incredible experience, and we hope Year 11 pupils enjoyed every moment. A huge thank you to Mrs Newman, Mr Anderson-Poore, Mr Cole, Mrs Wilson, and, most importantly, our phenomenal Year 11 pupils, who were fantastic ambassadors for Cams Hill School.  We can’t wait for the next adventure!
