Weekly Message 282 – 14 November 2025
14th November 2025

Remembrance Day
The school would like to acknowledge the fantastic commitment Year 11 pupils have shown throughout their Autumn Exams this week. Pupils are approaching these assessments with maturity, focus and determination, and staff are incredibly proud of the effort they have put in. Marking will now get underway, and feedback will be shared with pupils in due course to support their continued progress. We wish them the best of luck for the remaining exams taking place next week.
Thank you to pupils for the courtesy they continue to show around the building – to staff, visitors and one another. These small acts of respect and consideration help maintain a positive atmosphere for everyone.
As the weather becomes increasingly unpredictable, the school would also like to remind pupils to bring a coat each day to avoid feeling the cold and the inevitable soggy blazer!
Thank you to all parents and carers for their ongoing support.
Remembrance Day

On Tuesday with our Remembrance Service, we remembered all of those who have lost their lives during war. The service included a video from our History Club reading ‘In Flanders Fields’ as well as Mr Hudson (Headteacher) reading ‘For the Fallen’, which was broadcast to the whole school community. The 2-minute silence was signalled by Aiden in Year 11 playing the last post, and ended by him playing the Reveille.
New – Pop-Up Shop
Our Pop-Up shop will be open on Wednesday mornings from 0830 to 0900 in Main Reception. Please drop in if you have donations of secondhand school uniform, school bags, school shoes, ties or PE shoes or should you wish to purchase items.
Jewellery
A reminder that jewellery worn by pupils which is not in line with the school uniform policy will be confiscated and placed in the school safe until the end of day school day on Friday when it may be collected. We refer parents and carers to the letter that was sent on Friday 14 November 2025.
Artwork on the Theme of Remembrance

This term we invited Key Stage 3 pupils to create a piece of homework with the theme of remembrance. Year 7 pupils had a free rein of what they could produce, Year 8 pupils were asked to create a silhouette reflection having looked at the local street artist My Dog Sighs and to link to their current Portrait project and finally, Year 9 pupils had to consider the role of animals in the war.
We have had an incredible response from pupils across the three year groups and have begun a magnificent display of their work along the main corridor. The variety of materials, ideas and stories embedded in their artwork is phenomenal and it has been a joy listening to pupils explain how they came up with their ideas.
To recognise the hard work and commitment pupils have put into their homework we have awarded achievement points. Those pupils who went above and beyond and exceeded our expectations have been awarded generously, thank you!
Art Club’s Remembrance Poppies

For the first week back after half term, Art Club started creating a Remembrance display in Reception. Using specialist Crepe Paper, they were guided through a workshop on creating giant realistic looking poppies. They worked collaboratively to create 15 stunning poppies which, with the help of our crafty receptionists, were put together on display in reception.
The poppies will be on display for pupils, staff and visitors to see for another week, before being taken home by their creators.
Year 11 Hospitality and Catering – Fish Filleting Masterclass

This week, our Year 11 Hospitality and Catering pupils had the opportunity to fillet, prepare, and cook fresh mackerel, kindly donated by Victoria from oceanfish.com. The session provided excellent hands-on experience for pupils to develop their fish filleting skills while learning about the importance of using fresh, sustainable produce. Pupils also enjoyed pan frying and tasting this wonderful oily fish, packed full of nutrients and flavour!

How Can Parents Support Outstanding Attendance?
As we approach the winter months, we are seeing an increase in the number of children absent from school due to illness. We would like to encourage parents to consider the question: “Is my child too ill for school?”
According to NHS guidance, children can attend school with mild illnesses such as a minor cough, runny nose or sore throat. However, they should stay at home if they have a high temperature or have experienced sickness or diarrhoea.
We understand it can be difficult to send your child to school if they are feeling slightly unwell or a little anxious. However, we would advise that children are sent into school, and if their illness worsens, the school can assess whether they need to go home.
We would also like to remind parents that medical appointments should be arranged outside of school hours wherever possible. While we appreciate that hospital appointments cannot always be scheduled outside of the school day, please ensure your child attends school before or returns after the appointment.
