This week’s message concludes the Autumn Term and so much has been accomplished over the last 14 weeks – in the classroom and across the school. We try to acknowledge and capture as much as we can in the weekly message to give a sense of what it is like to be a member of this wonderful school community. Don’t forget you can also follow us on Facebook and on Twitter.

We hope that a 2-week holiday will offer up time for some rest and relaxation and enable all to come back together in the New Year fit, well and ready to get started with the term ahead.

The school re-opens to all pupils on Tuesday 3 January 2023 with its usual staggered start. The school calendar can be accessed via the website for dates of forthcoming events and activities; the next INSET Day is taking place on 27 January 2023 which is a common closure day with other local secondary schools.

With our best wishes to all our staff, pupils and their families – Merry Christmas everyone!

Christmas Lunch

With over 500 covers our pupils were provided with the most amazing Christmas dinner on Wednesday. Not to underestimate the hard work involved, the catering team as always took it all in their stride and delivered every plate of food with a smile. Our thanks also go to other members of staff and pupils who rallied around to make this event as special as it was. There was a lot of washing up!

Super effort from all the staff who attended the Chocolate Yule Log Staff Cook Club. Tremendous results from such a technical challenge as this! We hope they tasted as good as they looked.

Trip to Warner Bros Studio – Harry Potter

This week Y11 GCSE Art, Graphics, Photography and Drama pupils had the opportunity to visit Warner Bros Studios, London, one of the biggest film studios in the world. They took part in a classroom workshop learning about movie graphics and the different creative roles and careers in the film industry. This was followed by a tour of the Making of Harry Potter Films, where pupils had their photos taken riding broomsticks and the opportunity to sample the famous butterbeer. They will be able to use their photographs to develop ideas back in the classroom and in their GCSE portfolios.

Soul Band’s Visit to Redlands Primary School

Cams Hill School Soul Band visited Redlands Primary School on Thursday morning and performed in front of pupils in Years 1-6. The pupils and staff enjoyed a mixture of classic soul and Christmas songs. For many members of the band this was their first performance outside Cams Hill, and we are grateful they were able to perform in front of such an enthusiastic audience. Well done to all involved.

Trainee Staff Wellbeing Session

On Thursday afternoon our trainee teachers and their mentors took part in a festive crafty workshop organised by the Art Department. They were encouraged to create a lino cut for a Christmas card and of course indulge in some festive nibbles. As well as some time to catch-up and reflect, we all enjoyed learning new skills.

Our regular Art Club attendees also received goodies for being consistent members of the club. We hope they had fun with the different activities and crafts we’ve created this term.”

Mission Christmas and Fareham and Gosport BasicS

This week, 19 pupils visited Mission Christmas to help sort over 2500 presents that had been donated for distribution amongst the community.

Fareham and Gosport Basics were so grateful for your donations. We took two carloads of food, and we were told by one of the organisers that in the 20 years he’d been doing this he’d never known so many families helping and he couldn’t believe how generous our school has been. The pupil helpers did us proud and the organisers would love more helpers next year!
