Open Evening – Thursday 29 September 2022

We are looking forward to welcoming prospective parents/carers to Cams Hill School when we open our doors at 1700 for our annual Open Evening taking place on Thursday. Many members of the school community will be on site to share and promote the wide-ranging experiences and opportunities available to pupils at Cams Hill School.

Later start for pupils – Friday 30 September 2022

We remind parents/carers (as detailed in our school calendar) that on Friday 30 September 2022 the school will begin one hour later for all pupils. This later start recognises the outstanding dedication of the high number of pupils who volunteer to stay late in school as our pupil ambassadors at the Open Evening. Specific arrangements have been sent to parents/carers in the letter dated 22 September 2022.

Pupils should attend tutor time at the times detailed below, followed by Lesson 2 at 1000 and the remainder of the day as normal.

Year Group(s) Tutor Time
Years 7 & 8 0930 – 1000
Years 9 & 10 0940 – 1000
Year 11 0945 – 1000

‘Next Steps’ Open Evening for Year 11 pupils

On Thursday evening 10 colleges and apprenticeship providers attended an event to support our Year 11 pupils with their options when they leave Year 11. We have had a lot of positive feedback about the event and it links with assemblies that we will be running and the individual colleges’ open evenings that are coming up this term. We are encouraging our pupils to look at as many options as they can and look at the variety of courses from A Levels, BTECS, T levels and apprenticeships.

If you or your child has any questions about this we encourage you to speak to either Mr Townsend or Mr Purslow, our careers advisor, about their next steps.

Duke of Edinburgh – Silver Award Expedition

Twelve Year 11 pupils took part in their assessed expedition last weekend. They were fortunate with the weather which gave good conditions for walking, if not a little chilly at night. Each day the group walked for 7 hours around the Purbeck area, enjoying the views of Corfe Castle, the steam train to Swanage (although they were not allowed to get on!), the Jurassic Coast and finishing at Old Harry overlooking the Isle of Wight.

The pupils’ level of participation and behaviour were exemplary and although all found difficult moments, their attitude and the resilience shown was outstanding. We hope they are as proud of their achievement as we are and look forward to them completing the rest of the Award over the coming year.

Paper Birds Workshop

Our GCSE Drama pupils had the amazing opportunity to take part in a ‘Paper Birds Devised Theatre’ workshop on Friday 23 September.

Year 10 and Year 11 pupils worked with a practitioner to gain insight into devising and to help develop their techniques with practical explorations in preparation for their GCSE Drama exam. The pupils were brilliant and will have benefited enormously from the day.

House Assemblies

This week we have had three out of four House Assemblies, Endeavour, Invincible and Illustrious, and we have welcomed Year 7 into their new House teams.

Mrs Holden with House Leaders and Captains introduced House challenges for the year and spoke to pupils about the importance of getting involved in as many challenges as possible. Part of being a member of a House is raising money for local charities. This year we are proud to be supporting Ickle Pickles in Endeavour, Sophie’s Legacy in Illustrious and Eight Foundation in Invincible.

The eligibility criteria for pupils to be able to take part in the end of year celebration day was also explained.

We look forward to our assembly with Warrior House on Monday afternoon and very much look forward to seeing how pupils get involved throughout the year.
