As we approach the end of our second week, pupils will now have met most of their teachers and experienced the majority of their new lessons. It has been great to see them settling into new routines, getting to know their teachers and getting back into the rhythm of school life.
We are also looking forward to seeing pupils make the most of the wider opportunities available to them through our co-curricular programme. Clubs and activities are a great way for pupils to try something new, develop interests and skills beyond the classroom, meet others and get involved in the wider life of the school. The calendar of clubs and activities has now been published on the school website, so please do take a look and encourage your child to get involved.
Thank you also to parents and carers for the support you have given in helping your child or children meet our standards and expectations as they return to school. We make no apologies for having high expectations at Cams Hill School. These expectations are well established. Getting the basics right – uniform, punctuality, equipment, routines and behaviour helps to create the right environment for everyone. We want pupils to develop high expectations of themselves: to take pride in how they present themselves, how they behave, how they approach their learning and how they contribute to our school community. Thank you for working with us to reinforce these expectations at home.
We have had some rather wet weather this week, and we have had a few pupils arriving to school soggy! A quick reminder to parents and carers to make sure that pupils come to school prepared for the weather, with a suitable coat or other means of keeping themselves and their uniform dry. Arriving at school soaking wet can be quite a distraction and can make it difficult for pupils to get settled and ready to learn.

Year 11 Revision Timetable
Art Club Begins First Project
Art Club has returned this year for more weekly instalments of crafting for pupils in Years 7-9 (and a few from Year 10 as well).
For our first week we were joined by some of our new Year 7 pupils who have already shown how enthusiastic they are about crafting.
We kicked off with a project inspired by stunning pieces of jewellery worn by Zendaya and Tom Holland at the latest Spider-Man premieres. There were a few gasps of excitement from Art Club as they were introduced to their first project: dazzling beaded spider suncatchers.
They spent the session learning about different jewellery making tools and how to use them, as well as a few wire bending and looping techniques to secure beads and wire. They managed to finish the main structure of the spider’s body and legs, ready for next week when they will begin threading various iridescent crystal faceted beads.
There’s still time for pupils to join in and create their own beaded spider suncatcher, they should just come along to Art2 next Wednesday after school – there’s no need to sign up.”

Bike Doctor
The bike doctor from the Walk Wheel Trust came in for two days this week. A total of 55 bicycles, belonging to pupils in all five-year groups, were serviced, repaired and safety checked, and many had new parts added. It was a very successful two days, and the bike doctor will return before the Christmas break (date to be confirmed) to run a maintenance class for pupils wishing to learn to do their own bicycle servicing.

September-December Youth Action Volunteering Opportunities – South Down National Park – Ages 16-25
New Youth Action volunteering opportunities are available for young people aged 16–25 through the South Downs National Park.
These free opportunities offer valuable practical experience in conservation and land management with the Education and Ranger teams. Youth Action volunteering can contribute to CV development and work experience hours, while providing opportunities to meet like-minded people, support the natural world and promote wellbeing.
Reasonable travel costs will be paid, and a contribution towards lunch is available with a valid receipt.
