Royal Navy and Royal Marine Sports and Careers Day

On Wednesday 6 May, the Year 10 uniformed services class had the opportunity to take part in a Royal Navy and Royal Marine sports and careers day at HMS Temeraire the home of Royal Navy sport. The pupil undertook a range of sports that included rugby, pickleball, hockey, esports, Jiu jitsu and many others. They had a chance to learn more about the role and opportunities of the Royal Marines and the Royal Navy during the careers brief while also meeting serving members of the armed forces. The day ended with a prize giving and a display from the Royal Marines band.
National Numeracy Day- Wednesday 20 May 2026

National Numeracy Day, taking place on Wednesday 20 May, is the UK’s only campaign dedicated to improving everyday maths and building confidence with numbers. This year’s theme, “Count on Your Community”, highlights how schools, families and communities can work together to help young people feel more positive about numeracy in everyday life — from budgeting and shopping to sport, travel and future careers. Pupils are increasingly being given access to a variety of activities designed to show that maths is for everyone and that confidence with numbers can open doors and create opportunities. Parents and carers are encouraged to continue conversations about numbers at home and support children in recognising the important role numeracy plays in daily life.
Use the link below to explore the resources available and while you’re there why not take the National Numeracy Challenge – A free online tool that helps people improve their everyday maths skills and build confidence with numbers through personalised quizzes, activities and practical learning linked to real-life situations.
