Welcome back to all our readers following the half-term break.

Year 11 pupils have concluded a week of mock exams and are to be commended for the way they have responded to the formality of the exam setting. There will be two final mock exams taking place on Monday 6 November and, in lesson time, pupils will be sitting In-Class Assessments in some subjects. Well done Year 11; we are proud of you!

Our thanks go to our brilliant and dedicated team of invigilators and Examination Officer, who support the pupils throughout. Teachers are now busy marking exam papers so that pupils can receive valuable feedback as they continue learning in their subjects.

Being Prepared

We have certainly noticed the changeable weather this week and we urge parents/carers to ensure that pupils come to school with a coat which can be worn over their blazer when not in a lesson. With the nights drawing in, we ask that parents/carers ensure their children have lights for their bicycles especially when staying for after-school activities.

If pupils are not using the Dining Hall, breaktime and lunchtime are spent outside. Pupils can choose to wear their fleece PE jumper under their blazer, or a school jumper or cardigan with the embroidered badge (navy). Alternatively, a plain navy blue, round neck sweatshirt may be worn – sweatshirts with logos are not permitted. Please note that non-uniform ‘hoodies’ will be confiscated if worn.

Years 8 and 9 Parents’ Tutor Evening

A letter has been sent to parents/carers of pupils in Years 8 and 9 inviting them into school to meet with their child’s tutor on Tuesday 14 November 2023. Parent Subject Evenings are scheduled for later in the year. Please refer to the school’s calendar for the dates of all forthcoming events.

Drama Workshops

On Monday, Year 10 and Year 11 GCSE Drama pupils took part in a devising workshop with Kerry Frampton from Splendid Theatre. The workshop equipped pupils with techniques they can use in their performance exams. There were moments when the pupils were pushed outside of their comfort zones, but they rose to the challenge to make their work the very best it could be. They explored breaking down the essence of stories and sharing perspectives from all characters. Who knew that the wool from Baa Baa Black Sheep could so eloquently share its story through the medium of song?!

Careers Lunchtime Drop-In Sessions

Barton Peveril visited on Wednesday for our lunch time drop-in.  Pupils spoke with them about a variety of topics including what courses they offer, what it is like to study there and how to get there from where they live.  Please remind your child that these drop-ins are every Wednesday, open to every year group and a useful opportunity to ask questions about future options.

For Parents/Carers – Using Google Family Link App

The Google Family Link has come on in leaps and bounds over the years, allowing parents greater management of their child’s Google accounts (eg Youtube) and Android devices. This includes children under the age of 13.

Internet Matters have put together a great article explaining exactly what Google Family Link is plus details instructions on how to set it up and use it.

You can find the article HERE.
