Weekly Message 306 – 19 June 2026
19th June 2026

Year 11 shirt signing
As another busy week draws to a close, we would like to acknowledge a significant milestone for our Year 11 pupils, who have now completed their GCSE examinations. We are incredibly proud of the commitment, resilience and determination they have shown throughout the examination period and over the last five years as members of our school community.
We wish them a well-deserved and restful summer and look forward to celebrating with them at the Year 11 Prom, as we mark the end of their five-year journey with us, before welcoming them back on Results Day on 20 August 2026.
Success in school relies on pupils working closely with their teachers – the subject specialists in the classroom. Every lesson is an opportunity to learn from experts who are there to guide, challenge and support pupils in making progress. As we move towards the end of the academic year, we encourage all pupils to reflect on what they have achieved so far and to think about what they would still like to accomplish in the weeks ahead, both in their lessons and through the many extracurricular opportunities available. There is still much to gain from the remainder of the term, and we encourage every pupil to make the most of it.
With the recent warmer weather and high temperatures expected to continue, we have informed pupils, parents and carers that blazers will be optional from Monday 22 June until the end of the Summer Term. Pupils should continue to meet all other uniform expectations, including those relating to footwear and jewellery. We remind pupils, parents and carers, as we are now in our Summer Uniform period, jumpers and sweatshirts should not be worn.
Year 11 College Communications
Now Year 11 have finished their exams, many of their chosen colleges will be inviting them to attend a Welcome Day prior to the summer break. Please remind your young person to check their personal emails, including junk folders, for important information regarding welcome days and enrolment.
GCSE Photography Walking Workshop

On Friday 12 June, some of our Year 10 pupils studying GCSE Photography met professional photographer Paul Gonella from the Strong Island Company for a photoshoot in Old Portsmouth.
Pupils had the opportunity to practise their camera skills at The Hotwalls in Old Portsmouth and chat with Paul about the importance of going out and about on location for their photoshoots. Paul shared many practical tips to help the pupils take incredible images from both smart phones and DSLR cameras. Well done to all pupils involved. We can’t wait to see your edited images!
Parental Pathways Evening
On Thursday evening we welcomed over 150 of our Year 10 parents/carers to our Parental Pathways Evening. Fareham College, Portsmouth College and Peter Symonds College attended to give information on A-Levels, Apprenticeships and vocational/technical post-16 pathways. We hope the evening was insightful and provided you with information to support your young person with their next steps.
Employer Engagement Project
On 1 June and 15 June, groups of Year 10 pupils had a visit from a local pharmaceutical company (Cytiva) to give a talk on how they use mathematics and specifically how they use algebra when they are developing new treatments, such as gene therapy. The company were part of the team that developed the Covid vaccines in 2020.
Pride Month Week 3

The third week of Pride month and we wanted to show our support, that eating cake was a piece of cake!
Promoting Inclusion: the lovely canteen staff put on cupcakes for the whole school to enjoy.
This visually represents the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. Sharing food is a simple, non-threatening way to bring the whole pupil body together to support peers and to continue to promote a culture of acceptance within our school community.
Staff Cook Club

This week, our Staff Cook Club enjoyed a wonderful culinary session learning how to create buttery, golden, flaky pastry from scratch and pair it with a flavour-packed sausage filling. Staff made their sausage rolls uniquely their own by experimenting with fresh ingredients such as fragrant sage, caramelised onions and favourite chutneys.
It was a fantastic way to unwind at the end of a busy day, with plenty of laughter, creativity and delicious results. As an added bonus, everyone prepared a selection of tasty snacks ready to enjoy while watching the England match later that evening!
Keeping Teenagers Safe Online – Bitdefender
Online safety guidance tends to group all under-18s together, which means it’s often too broad to be genuinely useful, especially with teenagers.
Younger children may accept boundaries set by adults without much pushback. Adolescents are different. As they develop their own sense of agency, well-intentioned advice from parents and teachers can quickly become background noise. Getting teenagers to follow online safety guidance is one challenge; getting them to internalise it is quite another.
Bitdefender has published some practical thinking on how to approach this with teenagers specifically. Find out more by following the link below:
