Weekly Message 288 – 9 January 2026
9th January 2026
Happy New Year and welcome back to all our parents and carers.
As we begin the Spring Term, we would like to share that this first week back has been dedicated to ensuring every pupil is fully prepared to benefit from the wealth of expertise and opportunities our school has to offer.
We have spent time revisiting our core values of courtesy, courage and commitment, alongside reinforcing our established routines, known as the Cams Hill Way, which help us maintain the calm, supportive environment we strive for across the school. By re-establishing these expectations, we are ensuring that all lessons provide maximum impact for teaching and learning. This includes a strong focus on pupils being ready to learn by coming to school fully equipped, listening attentively, and engaging positively in their learning.
We appreciate your continued support in helping us uphold these shared expectations as we work together to give every child the very best start to the term ahead.
Community Christmas Lunch
On Christmas Day, Cams Hill School was delighted to host the 16th Community First Christmas Day Lunch in Fareham, welcoming 65 elderly and socially isolated residents from Fareham and Gosport for a truly special day.
Guests enjoyed a three-course traditional Christmas lunch, followed by hot drinks and mince pies, a raffle, and live entertainment from talented keyboard and ukulele players. Community First provided transport, ensuring everyone arrived safely and returned home laden with presents, raffle prizes, and a bag of cake and mince pies. Many guests told us how much they had enjoyed the day, particularly as they would otherwise have spent Christmas alone.
Fiona from Community First said:
“An incredible team of volunteers made the event possible. On Christmas Day, 59 volunteers helped care for and serve our guests, while a further 20 supported in advance by wrapping presents and setting up the hall ready for the celebrations. Preparing Brussels sprouts for 130 people was no small task!”
This event truly reflected the strength of our local community. Presents were donated by shoppers in Fareham Shopping Centre and wrapped by volunteers at Crafty Makery. Additional donations came from many small businesses and individuals. Owton’s Butchers kindly donated the turkey, pigs in blankets and stuffing; The Fruit Basket supplied vegetables and dairy products at cost price; and Gregg’s donated 65 mince pies.
Tim Houghton, Chief Executive of Community First, said:
“Christmas can be an incredibly isolating time for some members of our community, and this event is a real lifeline. We are so grateful to Cams Hill School for hosting us this year and the individuals and businesses that have provided donations and gifts.”
We are proud to have opened our school to support such a meaningful community initiative and would like to thank everyone who contributed their time, resources, and goodwill to make this Christmas Day so memorable for our guests.
School Production – Billy Elliot
Our school production this year is Billy Elliot.
The show will run from Tuesday 3 February to Thursday 5 February 2026, and promises to be an unforgettable celebration of commitment, courage and talent.
Tickets are now on sale at £8 each, available via Arbor. As always, our pupils and staff have been working incredibly hard to put together a truly phenomenal production; we can’t wait to welcome you and share this performance with you.
Young Carers
At Cams Hill school we are aware that Young Carers may experience difficulties in their education because of their caring role.
A Young Carer is a child under 18 who regularly helps to look after a family member or friend who is disabled, ill, has a mental health condition or addiction problem.
Children may engage in:
- Practical tasks (cooking, housework and shopping)
- Physical care (lifting or helping someone use the stairs)
- Personal care (dressing, washing, helping with toilet needs)
- Managing the family budget (collecting benefits and prescriptions)
- Managing medication
- Looking after younger siblings
- Helping someone communicate
Cams Hill School can support young carers. If you, or a family member, need support, please contact either Miss Allen or a Head of Year. All contact will be treated with the strictest confidence.
Year 11 Art, Graphics and Photography
This week Year 11 Art, Graphics and Photography pupils have been given their EST (externally set task) from the AQA exam board. Each pupil will be guided through the paper by their class teacher which has a range of starting points for them to select just one. This is worth 40% of their final grade and will conclude with a ten-hour exam shortly after the Easter break. We are excited to see how pupils rise to the challenge of completing this project and would like to take the opportunity to remind parents, carers and pupils that catch-up continues to run every Thursday from 1500 to 1600.

Sports Results – Netball
Our Year 7 A squad beat The Petersfield School A squad in the Plate tournament yesterday 12-0, winning the Plate overall.
Our Year 8 B Squad played the Petersfield School A squad in the Plate and unfortunately lost 6-1.
Both teams played some excellent netball and represented our school brilliantly. We are incredibly proud of all our netball teams. Well done!
