Thank you to all parents and carers who were able to join us for the Year 9 Parents\u2019 Subject Evening this week.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The week has concluded with a staff training and development day with a sharp focus on school improvement priorities and teaching and learning to maximise the progress of pupils. These days are always incredibly productive as we shape and progress the provision for all our pupils in the classroom.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As we run up to the half-term holiday, with the coronavirus in mind, we advise parents and carers that we are following the guidance as provided by the Department for Education click here for the link<\/a> and we are promoting basic hygiene practices, such as washing hands regularly and sneezing into a tissue to help reduce the risk of spreading the virus.<\/p>\n

We wish our readers a restful half-term holiday and remind parents and carers that school will re-open to pupils on 24 February 2020. Parents and carers have also been advised of an early closure on Friday 28 February 2020, with pupils going home at 1445.<\/p>\n

Year 9 Crime Prevention<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On Monday, Year 9 participated in a \u2018Crime Prevention Day\u2019 delivered by the fantastic team from \u2018Prison Me No Way\u2019. Pupils learned about life in prison, about topics such as knife crime, county lines, domestic abuse and listened to an ex-convict speaking about the poor choices that people make that can lead to a stay in prison. Pupils found the day informative, fun and impactful.<\/p>\n

Maths Challenge at Portchester School<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Last week three teams headed to Portchester School to take part in the Maths Challenge with one of our teams taking the winning spot. Pupils will be invited to take part in the national heats later this term.<\/p>\n

Sport Relief 2020<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We very much like our Cams Hill Community to get involved in a \u2018Big Draw Raffle\u2019 to help raise money for Sport Relief 2020.\u00a0 Cams Hill School warmly welcomes any donations, prizes or experiences for our Big Draw Raffle and we are proud to acknowledge companies or businesses in recognition of their generosity.<\/p>\n

Recycling Stamps, Notes and Old Coins <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Cams Hill are proud to be supporting Solent Mind with their recent campaign to recycle stamps, notes and old coins. If you have any used stamps, old coins or old notes, please send them in and we\u2019ll gladly pass them on to the collection point. This is not only a recycling initiative but will also help Solent Mind raise valuable funds.<\/p>\n

Please just make sure the stamp is cut out of your envelope with a margin of about a 1 cm! Thank you!<\/p>\n

Little Red Riding Hood – Year 7<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On 16 January 2020, Year 7 were treated to a fantastic performance of \u2018Little Red Riding Hood\u2019 by the touring theatre company Bumblefly Theatre. As part of Drama\u2019s House Competition, pupils were asked to submit a theatre style review of the performance they saw. Out of the many reviews the Drama Department read, we have selected two winners whose work is published below:<\/p>\n

Little Red Riding Hood Review by Poppy Janowicz<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I thought that the performance was really funny because of the jokes they put into it. The set was good because they could pull things down and open parts up to change the set. I like the windows that they had because it made it look more like a house. The costumes did show the different characters, especially the Squirrel because the attached string made the tail stand up. The best part was when they made Miss Emery come up and be Little Red Riding Hood\u2019s mum. They used things like guitars, baskets and things like that as props to improve the performance. I liked that they added songs into the performance because it made the show funny and entertaining. Also, when the actors made small jokes and ran down the aisle was one of the best things about the show.<\/p>\n

Review of Little Red Riding Hood by Billi Walker<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I really enjoyed Little Red Riding Hood because of the different elements of different fairy tales as well as Little Red Riding Hood. I thought they changed their roles well as there were only 3 actors. They could improve how much Little Red Riding Hood is in the performance, I thought this because it wasn\u2019t until halfway through when they started to focus on Little Red Riding Hood. Overall, I really enjoyed it. I hope to see more shows by Bumblefly Theatre.<\/p>\n
