The aim of this page is to provide advice and support to pupils and their parents\/guardian around careers. You will find links to useful resources at the bottom of this page. Mrs Vadis is also available to support pupils during their school day.

ABOUT CAREER GUIDANCE IN SCHOOLS<\/h2>\n

High quality careers education and guidance in school or college is critical to young people\u2019s futures. It helps to prepare them for the workplace by providing a clear understanding of the world of work including the routes to jobs and careers that they might find engaging and rewarding. It supports them to acquire the self-development and career management skills they need to achieve positive employment destinations. This helps students to choose their pathways, improve their life opportunities and contribute to a productive and successful economy.
\nCareers guidance and access for education and training providers (publishing.service.gov.uk)<\/a>
\nThe Department for Education expects all secondary schools and colleges to use the internationally recognised Gatsby Benchmarks. The benchmarks are non-statutory but support schools and colleges by providing a framework around which they can develop their careers programme in line with their legal requirements to provide independent careers advice to pupils throughout their secondary education.<\/p>\n

CAREER ACTIVITIES AT CAMS<\/h2>\n

At Cams Hill School we offer 1:1 careers interviews with a qualified individual to all Year 11 pupils and to any pupil who would benefit at an earlier time. We offer multiple opportunities for pupils to meet colleges\/apprenticeship providers including (but not exclusively) the Year 9 Guided Choices Evening, Year 11 Next Steps Evening and various events throughout the year. Year 10 enjoy work experience placements, a college visit and mock interview day. We have regular talks from local and national members of industry from STEM, arts and many other sectors.<\/p>\n

Cams Hill School Proposal:<\/h2>\n

\u2022 Careers events to include talks by employers and education providers
\n\u2022 Work experience and mock interviews for year 10 pupils
\n\u2022 Careers week utilised to ensure pupils encounter talks from various employers and education providers
\n\u2022 We have contacts with and will use all local colleges (to include A-levels, vocational and technical courses including t-levels), the military (army is the largest apprenticeship provider in the UK). And local apprenticeship providers such as PETA and Steve Willis<\/p>\n

Review<\/h2>\n

Cams Hill School\u2019s CEIAG curriculum impact is measured via regular pupil voice; governor reports and visits; and pupil destination data which can be found here (including NEETs). Cams Hill School also uses Compass+ to complete robust reviews of the systems and procedures in place.<\/p>\n

WHEN CAN YOU LEAVE EDUCATION?<\/h2>\n

All young people are expected to stay in education or training (apprenticeships\/traineeships) for two years after Year 11. This could be at a 6th form or a college, in an apprenticeship or traineeship. You can also have a part time job or volunteer alongside. As long as you are under 19 on the 1st of September further education is free, after which you would need to pay so make the most of it! ARE YOU AN EMPLOYER WHO WOULD LIKE TO WORK WITH A LOCAL SCHOOL?<\/h2>\n

Whilst we now work closely with a large number of local industry representatives who come back time after time, we are always happy to hear from local businesses who can help us further. Talking to our pupils is enlightening, raises aspirations and improves their communication skills. It also is an ideal way to develop staff knowledge. If you would like to present to our pupils, support mock interviews or take a year 10 pupil for a week\u2019s work experience, please complete the form below and we will be in touch.

POST-16 OPTIONS:
\nFURTHER EDUCATION<\/h2>\n

There is a wide range of post-16 academic and vocational options available at all different levels at local sixth forms and colleges. Check prospectuses and websites for where you are interested in and attend their open evenings.
\nWhen you apply to college or sixth form you may need support with costs such as transport and equipment for your course. The college may have a discretionary fund and you may be able to apply for support. Speak to the college about this to see if you are eligible.<\/p>\n

APPRENTICESHIPS<\/h2>\n

Apprenticeships are available at various levels and provide paid work with an employer or training provider, alongside study to gain appropriate vocational qualifications. Find out more and look at vacancies at https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/apply-apprenticeship<\/a><\/p>\n

HIGHER EDUCATION<\/h2>\n

This is post-18 study, where you need a minimum of Level 3 qualifications (e.g. A levels or a Level 3 Extended Diploma). It is usually in universities but could also be at a specialist Higher Education Institution or in a further education colleges. Check out www.ucas.com<\/a> for information, and www.gov.uk\/student-finance<\/a> for details about finance.<\/p>\n

VOLUNTEERING<\/h2>\n
