The school continues to enjoy the confidence and positive support of parents and the community. It is this support and genuine working together, which underpins pupil achievement and ensures the school sustains its high standards.

  • 83% of pupils achieved at least two Science grades A* - C
  • In addition 68.8% achieved 5+ A* - C including English and Mathematics

Pupils, staff and parents are to be congratulated on a great team effort

The School enjoys an outstanding reputation and has an excellent record of academic and sporting success. At 16+ our pupils are all placed in further education, employment or in training. As a  Leading Edge School we are working to share excellent practice with other schools – a two way process that is bringing real benefit to support teachers in the classroom here and elsewhere.
The School now has six ICT suites and all pupils take GCSE ICT. In addition, there are class sets of laptops linked to the network for flexible working. The last four years have seen major investment in the School (circa £3.5M) providing a new Sports Hall, all weather , floodlit Tennis Courts, new teaching rooms, multi-purpose studio and through Specialist School Status - Science laboratories and enhanced Mathematics and ICT facilities.

Commitment to staff development is extremely important and reflected in our ‘Investor in People’ (IIP) award. The School has been very successful in guiding colleagues to promoted posts. The age profile is broad with many young and recently joined staff (last 2-3 years) and a core of very able and experienced, longer serving colleagues.

There are too numerous extra curricular activities to list them all. Here are just a few: Saturday Maths Workshops for Year 6, Rock Challenge, Army Leadership Training, French and German trips, Spanish exchange, Latin trip, ski trips, World War One History Battle Fields trip, New York trip, School Production, Speaking Competition, Science Competitions, Sporting Fixtures, Theatre Trips, 'Young Enterprise', Charity Fund Raising, School Council etc.
The School is a hive of activity both at lunchtimes and at the end of the teaching day. Staff make a significant commitment to providing enrichment opportunities for all pupils.

There is something for everyone, pupils and staff alike and new ideas are most welcome. The Staff and Parents Association (S&PA) is very active.

The Governors are very involved in the management of the School and most supportive.

The School has a strong Learning Support Department. Staff get to know the pupils well. Pupils are routinely assessed on entry, using ability, reading and spelling tests. It is not unusual for up to half of our new pupils (210 in a Year Group) to be given varying levels of support to raise standards of Literacy and Numeracy.

School Curriculum: Core Science, Maths, English, English Literature, a Humanity, a Language, Technology, RE, PE together with Options, including Latin and The Arts and Vocational courses in Performing Arts, Health and Social Care, Travel and Tourism, Art and Design and Diploma in Digital Applications (DIDA) complete a broad and balanced course of study.

Pupils are given rich and varied opportunities through Art, Drama and Music and Dance. Pupils of all abilities do well in both curricular and extra curricular/enrichment activities.

Ours is described by visitors as a happy school where there is a supportive structure in which individuals are valued. We are proud of this and work hard to maintain it. Keep in touch with our Weekly Bulletin available through this site (all routine communication from school is via email).

I hope this has given you a sense of the character of Cams Hill School.
