The
School enjoys an outstanding reputation and has an excellent
record of academic and sporting success. At 16+ our pupils
are all placed in further education, employment or in training.
As a Science
Specialist School we
are working to share excellent practice with other schools a
two way process that is bringing real benefit to support
teachers in the classroom here and elsewhere. |
|
|
The
School now has six ICT suites.
In addition, there are class sets of laptops linked to the
network for flexible working. In recent years there has been
major investment in the School providing
a new Sports Hall, all weather , floodlit Tennis Courts,
new teaching rooms, multi-purpose studio and through Specialist
School Status - Science laboratories and enhanced Mathematics
facilities.
Commitment to staff development
is extremely important and reflected in our Investor in People (IIP)
award. The School has been very successful in guiding colleagues
to promoted posts. The age profile is broad with many young and
recently joined staff and a core of very able
and experienced, longer serving colleagues. |

Extra
curricular activities are too numerous to list. Here are
just a few: Saturday Maths Workshops for Year 6, Rock Challenge,
Orchestra trip to Paris, French trip, German and Spanish exchanges,
ski trips, World War One History Battle Fields trip, Geography trip to
France, School Production, Speaking Competition, Science Competitions,
Sporting Fixtures, Theatre Trips, Charity Fund Raising,
School Council etc. |
|
|
The
School is a hive of activity both at lunchtimes and at the
end of the teaching day. Staff make a significant commitment
to providing enrichment opportunities for all pupils.
The Governors are
very involved in the leadership and management
of the School and highly supportive. |
|
|
| |
The
School has a strong Learning Support Department.
Staff get to know the pupils well. Pupils are routinely assessed
on entry, using cognitive ability, reading and spelling tests.
It is not unusual for up to half of our new pupils (210 in a
Year Group) to be given varying levels of support (mostly short
term) to raise standards of Literacy and Numeracy.
School
Curriculum: Core Science (and separate Sciences - Chemistry,
Physics & Biology), Maths, English, English Literature, History,
Geography, ICT, PDL, Languages (French, German & Spanish),
Technology, RE, PE and the Arts and Vocational courses in Performing
Arts, Health and Social Care, Travel and Tourism, Art and Design
and Digital Applications (DIDA) contribute to a broad and
balanced course of study. Key
Stage 4 comprises guided choices, RE, PDL, ICT, a language and
core subjects.
Pupils
are given rich and varied opportunities through Art, Drama and
Music and Dance. Pupils of all abilities do well in both curricular
and extra curricular/enrichment activities.
We
are proud that ours
is described by visitors as a happy School where there is a supportive
structure in which individuals are valued and do well. Keep in
touch with our Weekly
Bulletin available through this site
(all routine communication from school is via email).
I
hope this has given you a sense of the character of Cams Hill
School. |
