The school uniform is designed to be smart, to offer security for valuables and to take account of the need here for pupils to move outside the main building in cold weather to access temporary buildings. It is available from the School, on publicised sales days, at substantially reduced cost from the retail price, or from the recommended supplier, Skoolkit - 23, Trinity Street, Fareham, PO16 7SD ; Telephone: 01329 822509.

Please be sure to purchase from Skoolkit as purchase elsewhere will introduce different shades/styles that will negate the purpose of the uniform.

A second-hand uniform shop has been established by the School & Parents Association (S&PA).

Full school uniform should be worn to and from school – including jackets. When the weather is very hot pupils may take off their jackets and carry them. Whilst wearing the Cams Hill uniform, pupils are representing the School in the local community. Any behaviour outside School whilst wearing our uniform and which brings the School’s reputation into disrepute, will result in disciplinary action by the School.

Where a pupil is, by necessity, sent to school with incorrect school uniform, parents/guardians should give the child a note addressed to the Form Tutor explaining the reasons. This will be initialled by the Form Tutor and presented to staff on request during that day.

Spare items of uniform are kept in School and pupils (where appropriate) will be required to wear these in order to be suitably dressed for School. Items are to be returned at the end of the day.

If pupils have piercing requiring them to wear additional jewellery, such as nose studs, extra ear studs, eyebrow studs, tongue studs, they will be told to remove them during the school day even if this means that the piercing will close up.

Note on Footwear:

In a Report commissioned by the Education Service it cites inappropriate footwear as being a significant factor in the increase of risk involved in outdoor games. Children who have no traction are inclined to slip. They may bang their heads, fall on wrists and arms unexpectedly and may strain/tear muscle fibres. Pupils cannot hope to perform competently and feel embarrassed by their seeming lack of balance and ability.

Please ensure that you supply your son/daughter with studded footwear.

Last year the teachers were very concerned about the amount of time they had to spend reminding pupils about the standard of their uniform in lessons. In some cases pupils were being reminded repeatedly about uniform lesson after lesson and teacher after teacher.

The rules about uniform are clear and there is no excuse for a pupil failing to follow the rules repeatedly. Teachers do not wish to have their relationships with the pupils soured by the negative atmosphere that develops when pupils have to be reminded about something they should be doing automatically.

From September 2007 we introduced a new approach to this problem. After one general reminder per lesson pupils who are not dressed as they should be will be referred to Parent and Pupil Services (PPS) who will keep computer records.

If a pupil accumulates five referrals a letter will be sent home asking parents to encourage the child to co-operate and a record will be placed on the pupil’s file. If there are five further referrals a detention will be issued automatically. If a pupil continues to flout the uniform regulations the Head of Year/Key Stage Manager will become involved and parents will be asked to come into school.

We are doing this in the interests of good relations with the majority of pupils and also to help us to apply our rules fairly and transparently. We look to parents to support us in this endeavour.
