Specialist schools are an important part of the Government's plans to raise standards in secondary education. The Specialist Schools Programme (SSP) helps schools, in partnership with private sector sponsors and supported by additional Government funding, to establish distinctive identities through their chosen specialisms and achieve their targets to raise standards.

In July 2010 we were re-designated as a Science & Mathematics Specialist School for a further three years.

“The school has used the specialism not only to improve the outcomes in Science in the school, but to improve other subjects’ outcomes and to raise achievements in the school. It has supported well and in depth, across a wide range of schools and other partners across a wide geographical area the science education of young people and wider ECM and family learning outcomes. It is an evident leader of Science education in the region with contributions nationally.” -
Chris Wilson, Hampshire Local Authority

At Cams Hill School we value all children as individuals with unique talents, skills and abilities. We are committed to supporting all children to do their best through academic, artistic and sporting achievements.

Over the past five years our Specialist School Status has enabled us to develop facilities and resources to enhance teaching and learning across our whole curriculum and that of our partner schools. We are continuing to work to achieve our aim of becoming a centre of excellence in Science and Mathematics education and to be able to disseminate best practice at a regional and national level.

Our Cams Hill Science Consortium currently involves teachers from 36 primary and secondary schools across Hampshire and West Sussex. Working in partnership, we have been able to support raising standards of teaching and learning in science lessons for all age groups KS1 to KS5 as well as develop various innovative curriculum enrichment activities, challenges and competitions. For further details of these and our various publications please see our Leading Edge page.
