SERIOUS MISCONDUCT BY PUPILS

The School has clear, documented policy on the management of incidents of serious misconduct at Cams Hill School. Fortunately these are relatively rare here, but might include:

  • Prolonged repeated unacceptable behaviour
  • Vandalism
  • Under-age sexual activity
  • Intimidation
  • Coercion/blackmail
  • Physical violence against staff or pupils or threat of the same
  • Theft
  • Matters relating to the supply, use or possession of substances (including alcohol and commercially available chemicals and aerosols) for misuse or abuse
  • Homophobic, racist or other abuse.

The School has a variety of structures and procedures to assist pupils with personal problems and the Personal Development Learning programme addresses the issues listed above. Unless the School has a legal obligation to the contrary confidential help and advice is available to pupils. The terms and limitations of confidentiality are always explained to pupils at the outset.

Nevertheless, where the health, safety and welfare of pupils and/or staff is placed in jeopardy by serious misconduct the School reserves the right to apply the maximum sanction of Permanent Exclusion.

Circumstances leading to this might include:

  • Serious actual or threatened violence against another pupil or member of staff
  • Sexual abuse or assault
  • Supplying an illegal drug whilst en route to or from School and in uniform or on the School site
  • Carrying an offensive weapon
  • Persistent and defiant misbehaviour, including bullying
  • Possession and/or use of an illegal drug on School premises (including alcohol and commercially available chemicals and aerosols)

Parents need to be aware that Permanent Exclusion has always been the sanction implemented in every instance with the, thankfully very rare drug-related incidents on site. Relevant policies relating to this issue are available on request.
