AUTUMN CONCERT

This year, the Summer Concert was rescheduled to take place in the Autumn. It was a mixed bag of genre and styles that included traditional folk music, classical, items from the West End and themes from Hollywood.

Some of the highlights included Nathasha Brown's piano solo for which she played "Landscape" by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius; a Mozart clarinet solo by Karen Taylor and the popular Harold Arlen piece "Over the Rainbow" played by Evangline Grocott on clarinet.

The second half included the Clarinet ensemble, made up of David Gauld, Cyndonie Banting, Evangeline Grocott, Lauren Elmer, Jennifer Shute and Laura Collins, who played the jazzy George Gershwin hit "O Lady Be Good".

The concert concluded with the orchestra playing "Pirates of the Carribean" which was a great hit.

I would like to thank Mrs Ingledew, Miss Stevenson, Mr Anderson, Mr Carrington, Mrs Clayton and, of course, our very talented pupils for all their hard work.

S Lawrenson, Head of Music & Peripatetic Music

SUCCESS FOR FORMER PUPIL
Former Cams Hill pupil Jakob Aungiers has won the title of "Young Environmental Photographer of the Year" and a prize of £500.

Jakob is currently studying A Level Maths at Barton Peveril College, Eastleigh. His image of a shopping trolley in a subway was selected from 1,400 international entries in a competition run by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management which asked entrants to reflect some of the important environmental issues of our time.

He will attend a ceremony in London and his photograph will be displayed in an exhibition at the Arts Pavilion until October 11.
SAINSBURYS VOUCHERS

Thank you to everybody who supported the Sainsbury's Active Kids Vouchers from February until June.

We placed our cooking utensils order with Sainsbury's in July. The order has now been delivered and utensils are already being used in the Food Technology classroom.  Some of the items ordered were a camera and tripod, microwaves, kettles, smoothie makers, ice cream maker, frying pans, saucepans, cutlery sets, mixing bowls, oven trays, cooling trays, weighing scales and many more items.

Cams Hill School really appreciates those parents, pupils and staff who sent vouchers into school to support this campaign.  Thank you once again.

NATIONAL CHILDRENS' BOOK WEEK AND POETRY DAY

This is an annual celebration of children's books and reading, though in the Library we celebrate reading for pleasure all year round!

We welcome pupils in the Library from 8am, before school starts, during break and lunchtimes. Our wide variety of books covers all subjects and interests and we have an extensive fiction collection.

Pupils - Come and see if there's something for you!

National Poetry Day takes place on Thursday during Book Week. The theme this year is work - from classroom to factory floor, from building site to office.

We have a display in the Library showing a variety of work related poetry and would welcome any contributions from pupils!

ABSENCES FROM SCHOOL

ABSENCE DUE TO ILLNESS

A phone call to the school on the first day of your child’s absence is required. The absence line number is 01329 226540.

This should then be followed up with a letter from you on their return to school and given to your child’s tutor during AM registration.

Alternatively, you can email absences@camshill.com. Should we not receive a phone call from you on your child’s first day of absence, you will be contacted by text message asking for you to contact the school. Therefore, it is vitally important that we hold the correct contact details for you.

DOCTOR/DENTAL APPOINTMENTS

Should your child have a doctor/dental appointment, or any other circumstance that will mean your child misses AM registration, then a phone call should be made to the school before 9.00am of that morning.

Ideally, we would ask that you call the School before the appointment date to advise that your child will be late into school. Your child should hand in a letter signed by you advising of the reason for their late arrival when they sign in at Pupil Reception.

Should you require your child to leave school earlier than 3.15pm (2.10pm on Friday), he/she should bring in a letter from you on that day. Your child will need to have the letter signed by the tutor during AM registration and then give it to Pupil Reception when signing out.

Please note that no child will be allowed to leave the School site without parental consent.

HOLIDAY ABSENCES

Should you wish to apply for absence due to holiday, forms can be collected from Main Reception or Pupil Reception or downloaded by clicking here or you can forward an email requesting an application to office@camshill.com.
You should allow at least two weeks for a decision to be posted/emailed to you
.

Please only take holidays in term term for exceptional reasons.

This Sunday, Learning Support Assistant, Liz Farquharson is running in the Great North Run along with over 50,000 people. She is running with her son Paul, a former pupil of Cams Hill, to raise money for the cancer charity, the Bobby Robson Foundation (in conjunction with Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Charity). They are trying to raise £600, but they need a little help from their friends.

I ran my first half marathion in Newcastle so I know how Liz and Paul are feeling. It is only a few years ago that Liz ran her first mile and her progress has been fantastic.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor them. If you are a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So, please, come on everyone and support Liz this Sunday. You do not have to run, but you can help her to reach the target.

NEARLY NEW UNIFORM

The Staff and Parents’ Association is selling nearly new uniform as well as brand new, grey boys/girls' trousers and skirts. If you are interested in having a look at what is on sale, you may come along to the school anytime during school hours and a member of staff will show you.

The brand new uniform is selling at £9 for trousers and £6 for skirts.

All nearly new uniform is priced separately and range from 50p to a few pounds. Why not come and have a look?

LONDON SHOPPING TRIPS

The Cams Hill School Staff and Parents’ Association invites you to their annual shopping trip to London on Saturday 22 November, leaving school at 8am and leaving London at 6pm for the return journey.

I have arranged for the coach to drop us off at Trafalgar Square where you will be free to do Christmas shopping, visit a museum etc. There is no restriction on children coming along but they will need to be adult accompanied.

I have booked a 77 seater coach at present, so first come, first served. The cost this year will be £15.

Please contact me at the School on 01329 231641 (if you are interested) as soon as possible.

Support Us And Win
THE 200 CLUB

“The 200 Club” is a simple way for you to support the S&PA, and thereby the School.

You pay £1 per month (£12 per year) and are given your own number. We then draw two numbers every month. The first prize is £25 and the second is £15. Twice a year we do an extra draw when someone wins £100. Even if your number is drawn, it gets put straight back so you can win again and again!

It’s called “The 200 Club" because the ideal number of members is 200 – simple really! If we keep this number up we can raise a significant amount of money. This money is then allocated to various departments so that they can buy additional resources that the School would otherwise not be able to afford and thus enhance the teaching of our children.

The chances of winning are far greater than the National Lottery, so why not join today? Just fill in the application form and send it in, together with a cheque or a standing order mandate.

Please print off the form and return to Margaret King, 200 Club co-ordinator, at the School, care of the S&PA 200 Club. Thank you.
